About this coffee The Meirisch family have been growing and producing some of the most renowned lots of Geisha in Nicaragua for many years. The San Jose farm was purchased in 2003 by the Mierisch family, who reclaimed it after it had been abandoned for many years. They planted Javanica, Yellow and Red Pacamara, Geisha, Caturra, Red Catuai, Yellow & Red Pacas, and Ethiosar; which we have featured in previous years. Each varietal thrived in the rich, balanced soil, and combined with the Meirisch family’s expert processing has resulted in exceptional coffees being produced on the farm. This year we are excited to offer a natural Geisha from the San Jose farm.

For this lot, the ripe cherries were picked at their peak, then quickly floated in water to remove any defect cherries, before being transported to the Beneficio Don Esteban dry mill an hour away. Once at the dry mill, the cherries are placed on a thick mat that allows airflow to pass between the ground and the coffee. The cherries are dried for 4 days under 100% sunlight at this stage before being moved to raised beds and dried under 75% shade for another 28 days. Finally, the coffee is moved to the warehouse where it rests for an additional month to assist in a more consistent moisture level across the lot before reaching the final stages of preparing the coffee for export.
