About this coffee The Nyungwe Washing Station is located nearby the Nyungwe Forest National Park, the farthest source of the River Nile, and was originally built in 2006 before the Rwanda Trading Company purchased the station in 2013 and begun trading a year later.
The coffee grows right up to the National Park border on small farms ranging 150-3,000 trees. Coffee delivered to the station is cleaned and sorted before pulping and in the case of this lot, rather than being washed clean, the coffee is sent straight to the drying beds. The coffee seed dries with the mucilage and this is where the Honey process receives it’s name. The process was made a name for itself in Costa Rica due to it’s cup profile and for being environmentally conscious and has spread world wide since.
Farmers working with Rwanda Trading Company are enrolled into their agronomy training program and participate in training modules of both best agricultural practices and financial literacy. Over the past two years, RTC has focused on plant rejuvenation with participating growers and has distributed over 200,000 seedlings to assist in farmers replace older coffee plants and expand their farms around the Nyungwe washing station and over 3.5 million seedlings across all RTC washing stations in the last 3 years alone.
Our current roasting schedule is Monday through Wednesday and best enjoyed 14 days after roast date.

This is a new partnership for Idle Hands. We’re excited by the opportunity to work with Falcon Coffees and Rwanda Trading Co. We were introduced to Falcon by a friend, Gui, last year in Brazil. Gui wanted to connect good folks with good folks and we’re so grateful for the introduction to Falcon and Corey. Corey has invited us to join them on a trip in May to visit RTC and the Nyungwe Site. We’re looking forward to joining them and connecting with the washing station more directly.
