About this coffee Gishyita Coffee began processing coffee in 2010 under the ownership of a small cooperative. However, the cooperative struggled with limited resources and capacity to manage the harvest effectively. Recently, they decided to lease the station to Providence, a young local entrepreneur, who later acquired full ownership when the cooperative agreed to sell.
Providence, kind as his smile shows, is focused on building a thriving agri-business and has already made significant strides. Since taking over, he renovated the washing station and expanded its operations to process over six containers of coffee annually, offering both fully washed and natural processed coffees. Additionally, he established a coffee farm on 40 hectares of family land, which not only provides a consistent coffee supply but also serves as a model farm for local smallholder farmers.
Located in Karongi District, the washing station sources coffee from the hills surrounding Lake Kivu, an area known for its stunning landscapes. Farmers deliver cherries to Gishyita, where they are meticulously sorted. For washed coffees, the cherries are pulped, fermented in large concrete tanks, washed clean, and dried on raised beds.
